    'Puge' Simmons
So, who is Puge Simmons? From the writing of this page of the album it is believed that 'Puge' refers to Leonard F. Simmons. The writing here reads:
"Puge Simmons was mentioned as "Old Man Simmons" or sometimes as "Puge". He was no relation (to the Perryman's) as far as we know. I think he was a friend (probably a Civil War friend of Harley, Polly, Thelma and Tuentin's (spelling could be wrong) Grandpa Perryman, Gene's Great Grandpa. Mary Perryman is Gene's cousin(1st cousin) she lives in Marion, Indiana.

    1830 US Census (William Simmons)
The 1830 US Census shows the heads of household and number of persons living with that head of household. This census shows William Simmons (aged 20-30) living with a female aged 20-30 who is assumed to be his wife Betsey. It is interesting to point out that the enumerator marked in the wrong column for the age range of William and Betsey as they should be in the 30-40 age column. There are two males under the age of 5 indicated who would be Amos and Leonard F, there are two males between the age of 6-10 who would be Lyman and Edward, there is one male under the age of 15 who would be William W., and there is one female under the age of 5 who would be Huldah Ann.

Further notes from the Simmons Kinfolk Vol 2, No 1.
James H. Davis, Research Analyst for the Idaho State Historical Society, was unable to uncover any information in their files about Leonard but he did send along pages from the History of North Idaho, published in 1903, which give some clues to the atraction of the region in Idaho. Juliaetta, a town of 500, boasted of a semitropical climate, lush farm crops, abundent forests, and a promising mining industry. "A new sawmill ... capacity 1, 000,000 feet will be on Main Street...The entire output of this mill for some time to come will be required to meet the demand in Juliaetta and vicinity caused by the construction of new buildings." Doesn't that sound like the perfect place for an able carpenter like Leonard?
Many pioneer families must have made their own furnishings but it was indeed moving to find that two pieces built by Leonard are still in the family. Lula Anne and Nina Amelia Moon of David Hwy., Ionia have a walnut dresser made for their mother, Anna Elizabeth Simmons Moon. The George Dewitt Moon family of Peck Lake Rd., Ionia, own a secretary made by Leonard.
