    1900 US Census (Samuel Beckett)
    1900 US Census (Samuel Beckett)
I believe this page of the census that lists Sampson Beckett and family is the same Samuel Becket son of Oliver Becket. This is a very good find as I have failed to find Sam Becket in the 1900 US Census until now! The birthdates of Sam his wife Susan and his first son Willie (William) all match up to the information that I currently have plus Samuel is believed to be from Canada which is also stated here. One last clue is that the township is Robinson of Ottawa county which is important as I have many Beckett photos that point to Robinson Twp, Michigan. Information contained in this census is: Sampson Beckett (40) immigrated from Canada in 1875, his wife Susan(40) also immigrated from Canada in 1870, and their children; son Willie (17)b. Jan 1882 in Michigan, daughter Etta (14) b. Mar 1886 in Michigan, daughter Ethal (12) b. May 1888 in Michigan, son Silas (7) b. Jul 1892 in Michigan, and son Oren (4) b. May 1896. This census indicates that Sampson and Susan have been married for 19 years with 8 children born and 5 children still living. Sampson's occupation is stated as Farmer and Willie's occupation is stated as Farm Laborer.

William and family moved to Lowell, Michigan about 1928 and purchased an 80 acre plot to farm potatoes. We know the year is about 1927-1928 as William and family appeared in the 1930 US Census in Lowell, Vergennes, Michigan and we have photos that identify William and Anna's first five children as their first year at the farm. The photo is identifed as being the period of 1927-1929 based on the obvious ages of the children.
